Scenes from the 2012 Gift of Sight triage clinic at Salud y Paz for the upcoming annual Gift of Sight eye clinic. A team of volunteers from the USA will join the HF Guatemala team and medical volunteers in October 2012 to provide a week of free cataract surgeries and eye care to rural Guatemalans in Chichicastenago. 

The Gift of Sight team and HF Guatemala held a preliminary three-day eye clinic in Huehuetenango, Guatemala from August 16 - 18, 2012. The medical team was a total of 16 individuals — 3 surgeons, 5 residents, and 8 nurses and tech staff. In the three days, the team completed 22 cataract surgeries and 13 pterygium surgeries. Among the surgeons was Dr. Rudy Gutierrez, the head of IPC (Panamerican Institute against Blindness), a very respected and renowned surgeon throughout Latin America, as well as the US.

Humanity First Guatemala will be collaborating with the Gift of Sight team from Humanity First USA in October for the third annual eye camp to be held again at Salud y Paz in Chichicastengo.
